Going deep within - Search me God

EVERYTHING about you is known by God.  Psalm 139:1-6

  • He is omniscient and has searched you completely. (1)
    • He knows every action including your daily itinerary. (2a, 3a)
    • He knows your thoughts before you think them. (2b)
    • He knows your habits and the manner by which you do things. (3b)
    • He knows your words before you have even spoken them. (4)
    • We are under his watchful care before and after each moment of our lives. (5)
  • This is beyond our comprehension.

Ultimate power is an all present God who knows all even outside of timePsalm 139:7-12

  • We cannot hide from him. (7)
    • I could try to travel the galaxy, but I cannot escape his presence. (8a)
    • You can try to dig a hole, but that won’t go deep enough. (8b)
      • “in the depths” Sheol- center of the earth
    • The furthest horizon could not escape your authoritative direction that is secure. (9-10)
      • “hold fast” – stay the course, secure yourself to stay
    • The darkest cave cannot quench the light of God’s eyes. (11-12)
  • He is the substance of all that could be considered as a shield from his presence.

The designer/creator is the master technician of the created. Psalm 139:13-16

  • God is the source of your design and existence. (13)
    • Made with incredible skill—intentional “fearfully” and with awe of purpose “wonderfully”. (14)
    • Made with more than just the dust of the earth, but spirit. (15)
  • The story of my life was already known and written. (16)

Response to his inescapable presence and knowledge. Psalm 139:17-24

  1. Admiration and praise to God. Matthew Henry   (17)
  2. A holy detestation to sin and those who defy God in outright rebellion. MH (19-22)
  3. A holy satisfaction in personal integrity. (23-24)

The invitation to be searched.

My plea in a time such as this…

  • Things will not get fixed by fixating on those who don’t give a flip about Jesus.
  • Things will only change if the church is fully surrendered and in love with Jesus.
  • Surrender and love for Jesus happens when each person bends the knee in humility and asks God to do a deep clean of their soul.
  • Then and only then can we with clarity of heart and mind with the motive of love for Jesus effectively discern well, pray well, live well and speak well into a society that needs Jesus.
  • Revival is beginning when we have humbled ourselves and pray as the people of God.
  • Harvest happens when the people of God as a church on fire become the light of the world and people come to the light of Jesus.

INVITATION TO PRAY… “Search me God…”

Discussion Guide:

  1. In considering God’s omniscience written in Psalm 139:1-6 how does it make you feel that God is that aware of you? What makes you uncomfortable and what makes it good that He is that aware?
  2. In Psalm 139:7-12 God’s omnipresence is revealed. What are the mysteries to God’s presence that makes it difficult for you as a human being to understand or explain?
  3. In light of Psalm 139:23-24 and 2 Chronicles 7:14, what are the hopeful outcomes from a true personal pursuit of God that petitions him to do a deep work in your soul? How could your personal revival lead to harvest of other souls?
