This morning we’re covering the 6th commandment - Do not murder.

Genesis 9:5-7
Laws must be just--he who murders another forfeits his own life
Deuteronomy 19:4-13 Cities of Refuge
Dt 19:6,12 - avenger of blood? – ga’al, kinsman redeemer
Dt 19:12 - elders
Dt 19:4-5 - without malice aforethought
Dt 19:10,13 - innocent blood > pollute the land
Dt19:15-21 - Witnesses, judges, thorough investigation
Genesis 9:5 giving an accounting for the life of another
Gen 4:9 - “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Lv19:16-18 - don’t hate your neighbor in your heart
Deut 22:8 - Build a parapet around your roof

* - Heart of the commandment - LIFE!
If we love our neighbor we don’t take our neighbor's life, we don't hate our neighbor in our heart, we do look out for our neighbor's life. May we be fruitful and multiply, increasing life and blessing lives for that is the heart of Jesus for those who bear his image

Series Information

How can we truly know who God is and who we are if there was no law given from God to define morality.  The 10 Commandments give us a timeless framework by which we can know the holiness of God and to know our need for his help in living to please him.
