Starting strong in the winds of change

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW VIDEO FROM THIS WEEK.

Unlike the fleeting existence of a human being, the Word of the Lord stands forever.  Psalm 119:89

  • Our salvation like the Word of God is imperishable, it is eternal and will endure forever.

The very name of God—"I Am” speaks to his unchanging nature and presence.  Exodus 3:14

  • His name pointed people to the proper authority to fear. Fear him, not a mere man.
    • The name Yahweh was even considered unspeakable out of fear of its misuse.
  • His name gave confidence to a vulnerable nation because of his constant presence. He is always with you.

  • He will not change on them like shifting sands for he is constant in nature. He is who he is.

  • He is the beginning and the end, the all-sufficient one. You need no one else.

Jesus as your leader will anchor your feet in times of change.  Hebrews 13:4-9a

            Always changing values:

  • Human sexuality and marital covenants come under God’s judgment. (4)
    • In our society the very essence of marriage and healthy sexuality are coming under no judgment other than individual unquestioned affirmation.
  • Constant pursuit of money only creates contentment issues, but contentment in what God has provided will lead to a more at peace soul. (5a)

Standing with Jesus on firm footing:

  • You will not be abandoned. (5b)

  • He will help you. (6a)

  • Do not live by fear of others. (6b)

  • When doubting recall and imitate the blessed way of life of those who taught you the Scriptures. (7)

  • Jesus will not change on you! (8)

  • Strange teaching is changed teaching. (9a)

1 Peter 1:23-25 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

“All people are like grass,
    and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25
but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[c]

And this is the word that was preached to you.

Series Information

Job 12:12 says “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”  With all that has happened in the past couple of years people are clamoring for perspective and clarity.  Life did not prepare them for such times.  However, God has given wisdom through his Spirit and Word and those who have lived longer can give us guidance in such times.  This series is receiving from such people and then going to the Word to gain greater understanding and clarity for how to go forward thriving in faith.
