Anchored in Truth

Series Recap

Worldview – A largely unconscious but generally coherent set of presuppositions and beliefs that every person has which shape how we make sense of the world and everything int it. This in turn influences such things as how we see ourselves as individuals, how we interpret our role in society, how we deal with social issues, and what we regard as truth.

Same evidence, different views

All Scriptureis God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. -2 Tim 3:16-17

Worldview is not fixed

The importance of foundations

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom though psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. -Colossians 3:16

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” -Hebrews 4:12

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” -Isaiah 55:10-11

1 Peter 1:13-16

  • A gospel of truth – stands up to the challenge of the intellect
  • A gospel of hope – Jesus brings grace

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord.” And believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. -Romans 10:9

1 Peter 1:14-16

  • God is holy
  • Therefore be holy
  • We are redeemed, we need to live lit it

1 Peter 1:18-19

  • Living for salvation by following rules = an empty way of life
  • Living for God because of our salvation = God’s will for us

1 Peter 2:11-13

  • We should live to display the character of God
  • The world will not like it, and accuse us of not living up to their values

“The word of God is the standard”

1 Peter 3:8-17

  • Be like minded = live in harmony with others
  • Be humble = lift up others, not ourselves

1 Peter 3:15-16

  • Revere Jesus
  • Speak truth with gentleness and respect

God has given each of us a mission: to make disciples, and a relational world in which to do it. How we live is a testimony to those that are closest to us. When we live out the truth of scripture, we proclaim Jesus to the world.
