Sermon Discussion Questions by Pastor Nicholas:

  1. What in the sermon this week was interesting, troubling, inspiring, convicting or confusing to you?

  2. What personal story could you tell someone in your Oikos to make an impact? Think about it. Consider telling the story to your Life Group.

  3. In what boxes have you placed yourself? How might they limit your ability to communicate the message of Jesus?

  4. What place do you put yourself in the story? As you consider the banquet table that was set in Luke 7, where are you sitting? Which character are you? Why?

Bonus Points!
Read Matthew 26:6-13,  Mark 14:3-9,  Luke 7:36-50,  John 12:1-8.
All contain a woman anointing Jesus.  Are these stories about the same encounter? Or are they different? What makes you think so?

Text:  Luke 6:27-36

  1. What are one or two things from Pastor Tony’s teaching that stand out to you as key components in loving difficult people?

  2. How should we view certain spiritual gifts, like mercy or evangelism, in which some of us may feel not as strong? We can tend to excuse ourselves from developing or exercising such qualities. Why shouldn’t we?

  3. Have a conversation about a strategy of loving (bless/benefit) difficult people in our Oikos who are not yet followers of Jesus. How can we wrap our arms around this unnatural ability?

  4. Sometimes, we may find it most difficult to love difficult people within the church family. Discuss some ways that we can stay close to one another despite our differences. Use some scripture to support your strategy.

  5. Is there ever a reason for maintaining a “safe distance” from some people? Is it possible that some people may not be safe for me?
